Each Holiday season, many of us enjoy partaking in family traditions and fun celebrations. As we are swept up in the festivities and busyness of this time of year, it is nice to take the time to remember those who don’t get to enjoy the same experiences that we do. The Alpine Women’s Shine Project has provided opportunities for us to take a breath, think about, pray for, connect, help, spread love, and be a Light unto others. I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this opportunity to make a difference for others and hopefully make the holidays brighter for those who may be experiencing a decline in their health or feel little control over their life situations.
Women from the Alpine Shine Project united with one another to create a warm and loving afternoon for some of the residents at The Silverado Memory Care Facility. The afternoon started with the volunteers and residents getting to know one another. Despite their situations, many of them had warm smiles on their faces and were thrilled to jump into the afternoon activities. To start, the residents completed a pumpkin craft with the help of the Alpine women. The residents enjoyed festive fall treats while playing a game of fall Bingo. Finally, manicures were given while stories were shared. Not only did the residents enjoy a fantastic afternoon, but the Alpine women were touched by the experience of connecting with the residents. One of the residents arrived to the activity unhappy as she had recently been placed at Silverado and was really struggling. As the afternoon continued, her unhappiness was replaced with smiling and laughing as she shared stories about her life. As we departed, this resident was truly grateful to the Alpine women for all they had done for her.
The Shine Project has provided us with events where we can unite together as one. It is an important time of year for us to be reminded of all the things we have and should be grateful for. It is also an important time of year to be a blessing to others as God intends us to. I hope you will prayerfully consider participating in the next Shine Project!
