Annual Marriage Event

Alpine Chapel Marriage Ministry invites you to attend CHAMPION THE HEART OF YOUR SPOUSE – an Event to encourage and strengthen your relationship! Whether you are seriously dating, engaged or have been married for many years, please join us as we dive into what God says about being RELATIONSHIP CHAMPIONS!

Our speaker, Josh Straub, will help us see the ways we’re so prone to protect our own heart when it comes to our marriage, and offer a transformative way to consistently “champion the heart of our spouse“.

We encourage you to leave your children at home with a trusted sitter so you can make the most of the evening unencumbered by having to get your children to and from the event.  However, for those couples that otherwise would not be able to attend, childcare will be offered to the first 50 children registered (ages infant through 6th grade). About our Speaker

Josh Straub, Ph.D., cherishes his role as husband and dad. A champion of human empathy, Josh leads Famous at Home, a company equipping leaders, organizations, military families, and churches in emotional intelligence and family wellness. Josh also is a Fellow of the Townsend Institute for Leadership and Counseling. As a marriage and family coach and consultant with The Straub Co. and professor of child psychology/crisis response, Josh coaches leaders to be famous at home so they can thrive on their stage. He also speaks regularly for Joint Special Operations Command and serves military families across the country.

What is the Couple Checkup?

The Couple Checkup will help you and your partner build a more satisfying and intimate relationship. It is designed to encourage dialogue, discovery, and increase the overall quality of your relationship.

Why take the Couple Checkup?

The Couple Checkup will help you discover your strengths as a couple. Strengths are what enable you to enjoy, and to continue developing, a healthy relationship. It will also help you identify issues that may be impacting the vitality of your relationship and ways to address these issues.

When will we take the Couple Checkup?

At the Marriage Event on February 16th, you will receive a code that you can use to create your couple account. The assessment will be available for two weeks following the event to give you and your partner time to take the assessment and access your results.

What is the cost of this assessment?

Typically, the Couple Checkup costs $35. As an attendee at the Marriage Event, you will have the opportunity to take the assessment at no cost.

Will the Checkup be relevant for us as a couple?

A powerful and unique aspect of the Checkup is that the questions are tailored to you as a couple. Based on the background questions you answer, your Checkup will be customized to include questions specific to your couple type, whether that is married, dating, or engaged.

What feedback do we receive?

Immediately after you both have completed the Checkup online, you will receive a 15-20 page confidential computer-generated report with your results broken down into relational categories.

What topics are covered in the Checkup?

Twenty important relationship areas are explored. There are also questions about your personality and family-of-origin.

How accurate is the Couple Checkup?

The Couple Checkup is very accurate and is based on the highly respected PREPARE/ENRICH couple questionnaire. The Checkup has high levels of scientific rigor, which means the scores are reliable and accurate.

Will additional assistance will be available to us after we take the Couple Checkup?

Alpine’s Marriage Ministry team will be offering group sessions on interpreting your results during Sunday morning services on March 1 and March 8. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a Coaching Couple who can walk you through the details of your results.

Will anyone else see our results?

Alpine Chapel does not have access to the individual results of a couple, nor do we receive the emails or names of couples who take the assessment. Couples take the assessment online and receive their confidential reports. It is up to you to choose whether or not you want to share your results with anyone else.

Alpine Chapel will receive a group summary report. This allows us to get an overview of the strengths and growth areas for the couples in our church while protecting the privacy of individual couples. These summary results will help us focus our ministry efforts in the areas that are most beneficial to our couples.

What can we expect from the evening?

The event will begin at 5pm with a social time in the gymnasium with light appetizers and coffee/water/sodas.  Our guests will be able to access the auditorium for seating around 5:45-6pm at which time the speaking portion of the event will begin. There will be light desserts and more social/prayer time available at the end of our evening, which is expected to end around 8pm.  Parents utilizing childcare will need to pick up their children no later than 8:15pm.

When does the event start & end?

Event begins at 5pm and ends at 8pm.  Doors will open at 4:45 pm

Who can come to the event?

The Marriage Event is geared toward married couples, but couples who are seriously dating or engaged are encouraged to attend and will glean great information from the event.

Is this mostly geared to newly married couples?

Not at all.  Whether you have been married 30 days or 30 years, you will find much to gain from attending this event.  We can all benefit from learning better ways to connect with one another, regardless of our years married!  So, do your marriage (and your spouse) a great favor and sign up right away!!

Do we have to be Alpine Chapel attenders to come to this event?

Absolutely not!  This is a community event and we welcome all married couples, as well as seriously dating and engaged couples.  We encourage you to invite a few couple friends to come with you as well, so you can all have the same experience.

My spouse (or fiancé) is not a believer. Will they be comfortable at this event?

The event is geared toward biblical guidance for having a vibrant and healthy marriage.  However, anyone with a desire to have an excellent marriage will gain much information from this event.  We encourage you to attend.

How much does the event cost?

$50 per couple is our Early Bird rate, the rate will increase to $70 per couple after February 2.

Might the event sell out?

Yes, it might.  We did sell out at our 2019 event. We are limiting registrations to 175 couples.  We encourage you to register as soon as possible.

We are traveling quite a distance to attend this event. Are there accommodations available?

There is a Holiday Inn Express 2 miles from the event, at 197 S Rand Rd in Lake Zurich.  You can call them at (847) 726-7500 or make a reservation at   If that is not financially feasible for you, contact us at .   We have a small number of people that are offering a room in their homes at no charge for Sunday night following the Marriage Event.

Can I pay at the door?

YES. Tickets may be purchased at the door, unless the event is sold out. Ticket price at the door: $70. To purchase tickets at the door, visit the welcome desk. Doors will open at 4:45pm

Will there be handicapped seating?

ADA seating will be reserved in certain areas of the auditorium. Guests with physical disabilities and one companion are welcome to enter the event 15 minutes early to find their seats. Auditorium doors are open for handicapped seating at 5:30pm.

Where do I sit?

The event is general admission. All seating is first come, first served.

I can’t come to the event anymore, what do I do?

All tickets are non-refundable. We appreciate your understanding as many plans are made and prepaid weeks prior to the event. Your ticket may be transferred to another person to attend the event. Please email if you need to put another couple’s name in your place.

Will childcare be offered?

While childcare will be offered to those couples that otherwise would not be able to attend, we encourage you to leave your children at home with a trusted sitter so you can make the most of the evening unencumbered by having to get your children to and from the event.  Childcare will be limited to the first 50 children and is available for children through 6th grade. Due to this childcare limit, if you require church childcare, we strongly encourage you to register as soon as possible.  Additionally, if you have registered and requested childcare, and no longer need childcare, please let us know as soon as possible to make room for other children.  If you have specific questions, please email

Can I bring my infant to the event?

Mothers who are nursing can have their infants with them, however you will need to use the room set aside for parents with infants.  However, to get the most from this event we encourage couples to attend alone and use these few hours as an opportunity to be re-filled and refreshed, away from the routine of life.

Can our child sit with us during the event?

No.  In order to have the appropriate atmosphere for all participants no children will be allowed.

Is food provided during the event?

Light appetizers, sweets, and water, coffee will be offered before and after the speaking portion of the event.

Can I bring my own food to the event?

Outside food and drinks are not permitted.

Where is parking for the event?

Alpine Chapel has a large parking lot right outside the church doors.
